Overall Total
The Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church 2nd Century Project has raised approximately $8.7 million as of September 2024. This amount includes the grant received from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, as well as pledges from Montgomery County and the State of Maryland. We are tremendously grateful to our community partners for their support and excited to continue our journey to Restore, Regenerate, and Rejuvenate the historic Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church.
Our Future
The 2nd Century Project will preserve this Maryland State Historic Site, the vital hub of a community that has been at the heart of Montgomery County for more than 140 years.
Restoring the historic church for use as a community center will create a place where Scotland residents and the broader community can come together for charitable work, such as food drives, and neighborhood meetings. It will provide a venue for Girl Scout and Boy Scout groups to gather, a site for lectures and workshops, counseling services, and an anchor point for this longstanding community.
The new Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church will have room for the congregation to grow and celebrate significant events, from baptisms to weddings to funeral services. With a coffee shop and comfortable space to gather, it will support cross-generational social activities and the spiritual needs of the Scotland community and beyond.
Preserve the Past and Support the Future
Donating to the 2nd Century Project brings us one step closer to flood-proofing the landscape, restoring the original church into a multi-use fellowship hall, and constructing an entirely new worship space, which will double our capacity.
With your help, we are on the way to ensuring that the Scotland community has a place to gather and a spiritual home that will support its constituents for another century and beyond.
Your Support Makes a Difference
We need your help for the 2nd Century Project to succeed!
There is only one Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church. But there are many reasons to join in the campaign. It’s a matter of history. A matter of justice. A matter of friendship and community. A matter of spirit.
And everyone can help.
Please add your support to the Second Century Project: the campaign that is going to restore, regenerate, and rejuvenate the Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church.
